Canton, CT - Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm Ben & Jerry’s of Canton will be celebrating Free Cone Day to thank their customers for their patronage,  raise money and awareness in support of the Town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department.   Members of the Volunteer fire and EMS department will be scooping free ice cream and providing information about opportunities in the fire service.   Bring the kids for fire truck and ambulance tours.

Ben & Jerry’s co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield first scooped up free ice cream all day back in 1979 as a way to thank the community for supporting them in their first year.  Now it´s an annual tradition at many of their scoop shops around the world. It´s your chance to try any of our flavors for free and support a great cause at Ben & Jerry’s in Canton. Customers will be encouraged to make a donation on Free Cone Day to support the Town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department.

“This year we’re hoping to raise $2,000 in donations, so that we can truly support those that give their all to us every day,” said Jon Brink, Ben & Jerry’s franchise owner. In 2009, Ben & Jerry’s of Canton distributed nearly 2,400 free servings of their super premium ice cream and raised $1,400 during Free Cone Day - 100% of all donations support the purchase of training and equipment for fire and EMS volunteers. Since 2005, this annual event has helped to raise over $8,400 in donations for the Department.
